Inspiration
For Mick Rijnders, creating is like the breath of life; essential to experience clarity and to stand in his power. By bringing beauty, so is the intention, it will spread and enrich the world.
Much of his inspiration comes from the beauty of the Earth; the plant and animal kingdom, but also human beings and the power of the universal elements are a source of inspiration.
In addition to the more physical reality known to us, there is also another reality wich can bring inspiration aswell. As a child, Mick Rijnders noticed that many of his nightly dreams were bright and full of impressions. As an adult, he learned to visit that dreamreality while awake. In a state of increased awareness during meditation, a drumsession or a sweatlodge ceremony, for example, it is possible to see image fragments pass by, sometimes making entire journeys within that other reality. It is a reality that is less solid in form, more fluid and more changeable. A reality where you can have special encounters with spirit helpers in the form of animals, for example, who assist you and provide insights.
Materials and working methods
Mick Rijnders works with a variety of materials such as acrylic and watercolor paint, different types of ink, but also with coffee. Coffee gives a soft and natural touch to a painting, while ink is a powerful medium. What arises in the movement of creation, creates a spontaneity in the work through which the viewer experiences an authentic art experience. Also for the artist the creative journey of discovery continues, even if signature has been put on a finished work.
Education and work experience
Mick Rijnders graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam (now called Breitner Academy) in 2010 and obtained his diploma at the Reinwardt Academy (Museology) a few years earlier. The combination of studies offered the opportunity to work as an independent visual artist on one hand and to teach as an art teacher at a secondary school on the other. For years he has also combined the above activities with guiding school classes in the Royal Palace of Amsterdam (and in the past also at other locations such as the Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Museum).
